Step 1: Measuring Up

We start with a home consultation. Ensuring the measurements are correct is a vital starting point. Detailed measurements are taken and checked. This allows us to work out the amount of fabric and lining required so that we can provide you with a written estimate. This is the beginning of your project.

Step 2: Finding the perfect fabric

Whether you visit our curtain making workshop in Hertfordshire or we come to your home, selecting the perfect fabric is the start of your project. We have hundreds of books and samples and are happy to order in any particular fabric you choose.

We encourage you to take samples home, to make sure you are certain that they look just right. Each room has a different aspect and fabrics look very different in daylight compared with artificial lighting in the evening. Samples can be laid next to existing furniture and wall coverings to see if they really complement one another.

Step 3: Selecting the best window treatment

The next step is to choose the best design for your window. With our years of experience we can advise you on what will work best at your window, either curtains or blinds. Step 4: Choosing the track or pole

The wide range of tracks and poles can be very confusing. Once again, we will guide you, and explain the pros and cons of the different options. Visit Curtain Poles and Tracks for further information.

Step 5: Deciding on accessories

Some curtains benefit from tie-backs, particularly where there is limited room for the curtains when open, known as the ‘stack back’. If you have chosen a track to hang your curtains from, we are happy to design and make a pelmet or valance to hide the track.

There are also opportunities to use the same fabric, toning or contrasting material to tie the whole interior design together. In your living room or bedroom we would recommend cushions and throws. In a dining room, a decorative runner dresses a bare table.

You may require some additional privacy in some of your rooms. We would recommend voiles or sheers, or a light-weight blind. We are happy to discuss your ideas and come up with suggestions of our own.

Step 6: Estimating

With all the decisions made, we are then in a position to calculate the costs in order to provide you with a detailed estimate for the work.

Step 7: Making up

We will schedule your project into our work programme and give you an indication of the completion and installation date.

Step 8: Installation

We work with highly experienced installers, with whom we have built a good relationship over the years. They are used to difficult to install curtains and blinds, so your project is in safe hands. We are always on hand to oversee the hanging of your curtains and blinds.

I was recommended Changing Views to design and make my curtains and soft furnishings during my full farmhouse renovation and re-model.
I was keen to use someone local and independent and I’m so glad I did. Beth and Debbie are not only extremely knowledgeable and skilled at what they do but also lovely to work with, each meeting was professional and good humoured.

I had only intended to use a made to measure service for the principle rooms, but having started working with them I soon decided to hand the whole project over to them and they made every curtain and blind in the house which was over 20 pairs.
